What is athletes foot?
Athletes foot is the common name for ringworm of the foot, or Tinea Pedis which is the medical term for the condition. Athletes foot is a fungus infection and is caused by mold like fungus called Dermatophytes which thrive on the warm, sometimes moist from sweat, area of the feet allowing them to multiply.

What causes athletes foot?
Athletes foot is normally caused by coming into contact with some other human being or even an animal which already has the fungus infection.  persistent itching of the skin on the sole of the foot or between the toes

 flaking, peeling, or cracking skin
 a circular, red, raised rash with elevated edges

Athletes foot can affect anyone, guys or girls, if their feet tend to sweat a lot. However people who suffer from diabetes or obesity are more susceptible to the infection.

How do you prevent athletes foot?
Athletes foot is not an easy infection to prevent because it is contracted in places where bare feet come into contact with fungus, such as, showers, swimming pools and dressing rooms. However the most important factor in the prevention of athletes foot is good foot hygiene. Make sure you keep the feet clean and as free of sweat as is possible. Also make sure the area is dry by using a clean towel and the use of foot powder is also recommended.

ATHLETES FOOT TREATMENT

ATHLETES FOOT TREATMENT

20 to 30 garlic cloves, minced
2 to 4 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 to 4 tsp. powdered cloves
5 oz. 100-proof vodka

Add garlic, cinnamon, and cloves to vodka in a dark-colored glass jar or bottle with lid. Seal tightly. Store out of direct sunlight for two weeks, shaking to mix every few days. The tincture will be ready to use in 14 days.

To treat athletes foot, use cotton balls or a cloth to apply the tincture to the entire sole of the foot as well as between all the toes. Apply twice a day, morning and night. Let dry, then dust the entire foot with cornstarch. If a rash or any unusual irritation develops, discontinue using Athlete's Foot Treatment.

If, after having used this treatment for two weeks and athletes foot symptoms continue, consult your physician.

TIPS TO HELP CURE ATHLETES FOOT - PART 2

Hello I'm back again with the next installment of how to cure athletes foot fungus tips. Here goes...

Pay attention to your toenails - The toenails are the main breeding spots for the fungus. If you are suffering from athletes foot it is recommended that you scrape the undersides clean at least every 2 - 3 days. You can do this by using an orange stick, toothpick, or wooden match rather than a metal nail file, as a nail file could scratch the nails and provide the fungus with little holes to live in.

Keep applying treatment - If you do manage to clear up your athletes foot, you should continue using the treatment which helped cure it. This will help prevent the athletes foot returning. Use it less often of course (Maybe between 2 - 3 times a week) but enough to keep away the fungus. This is especially essential in warm weather as your feet will sweat more during these times which produces more bacteria.

Choose proper shoes - Avoid both plastic shoes and footwear that has been treated to keep water out. They trap perspiration and create a warm, moist environment for the athletes foot fungus to grow.

Change socks Regularly - If your feet sweat heavily, you should change your socks three or four times a day. Plus you should wear only clean cotton socks, not those made with synthetic yarns. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly during cleaning, because detergent residue can aggravate your skin problem.

Powder your toes - To further keep your feet dry, allow them to air-dry for 5 or 10 minutes after a shower before putting on your shoes and socks. Ensure your feet become completely dry then apply powder. To avoid the mess of loose powder, place it in a plastic or paper bag, then put your foot into the bag and shake it well.

Here are a few more tips to help you if you are suffering from athletes foot:

Step 1 - Athletes foot can come on quite suddenly accompanied by cracked skin, oozing blisters, and an intermittent burning sensation. If you are at these first stages of athletes foot you should keep your foot uncovered and at constant rest, even if you have to stay home from work or ignore your household duties to do so. Although the inflammation itself is not dangerous, it can worsen and lead to bacterial infection if you're not careful.

Step 2 - If you are at the stage where you are developing sore, to help cure athletes foot you should try to sooth these sores. You can use a cool damp cloth to compress the sores to cool the inflammation, ease the pain, lessen the itching, and dry the sores
